Obituary of Agnes Miles

Agnes Miles, age 95, born in Henry County, Kentucky, November 27, 1921, and passed away January 13, 2017, in Murfreesboro, TN. She graduated from Pleasureville High School in Kentucky in 1939. She graduated from the University of Louisville, KY, in 1956 where she received a BS degree in Child Education. She went on to graduate from Duke University in 1960 with a Masters degree in Education. Subsequently she worked for the Jefferson County School system for over 25 yrs. In 1947 her family moved to Louisville, KY where she went to work for the VA Hospital. During WWII, she worked for the U.S. Rationing Board program in Lexington, KY. She was a member of the St. Matthews United Methodist Church in St. Matthews KY. She enjoyed singing in church choirs, traveling, hiking, and theater. She started painting after retirement. At the age of 85 she taught herself how to use computers. In June 2011, Agnes moved to Murfreesboro, TN to be near her family. She lived her life to fulfill God’s purposes. She was preceded in death by her parents J. Mason and Nellie Chisholm Miles and sister Ernestine Miles Cowden (John). Survived by her niece, Rose Cowden (Charles) Wright of Murfreesboro, TN; Nephew, John Miles (Derrell) Cowden of Petersburg, TN; great-nephews, Tommy and Jimmy Cowden, many cousins, and three great-great nieces. A graveside service will be conducted at Pleasureville Cemetery in Pleasureville, Ky, Saturday, January 21, 2017, at 1pm EST. Murfreesboro Funeral Home will be arranging all services.
