Obituary of Derek Bryson Wyatt
Derek Bryson Wyatt age 47 of Murfreesboro passed away on Thursday August 24, 2017 at his residence.
Derek was preceded in death by his father; Dr. Roger D. Wyatt of Athens, Georgia and his grandparents; Paul and Ethrillian Wyatt of Albemarle, North Carolina, and Clyde and Frances Bryson of Richfield, North Carolina.
Mr. Wyatt is survived by his mother; Freida Wyatt, one sister; Tamara Beebe and her husband Jay and one nephew Jacob Jensen all of Murfreesboro.
Derek was a lifelong member of Mars Hill Baptist Church in Athens, Georgia. Derek loved the Lord, and was devoted to his teachings. He attended Clarke Central High School in Athens and the University of Georgia, and graduated from Berklee College of Music in Boston, Massachusetts where he received his B.S. degree in Drum performance. Music was second only to his Savior, Jesus Christ.
Derek played the drums professionally with Kelly Clarkson, Nick Carter, Backstreet Boys, Nick Lachey, Clay Aiken, Point of Grace and others during his prolific career. He had just recently begun songwriting with his lifelong friend, Mark Luthi of Rome, Georgia. He played on Saturday Night Live 2 to 3 times, Oprah, Dr. Phil and the VMA’s. He traveled all over the world as a tour drummer.
A celebration of life service will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Crohn’s & Colitis Foundation Tennessee Chapter 116 Wilson Pike Circle Brentwood ,Tennessee 37027. Murfreesboro Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
