Obituary of Brenda Vinson Messick

       Brenda Joyce (Vinson) Messick, age 75, of Murfreesboro went home to be with our Heavenly Father on Thursday, September 21, 2017.  A native of Cannon County, she was preceded in death by her parents Robert and Marjorie Earls Vinson; brothers James Vinson in 1961 and Dwight (Janice) Vinson in 2016, and friend Jane Tucker Vickers of Huntsville, AL, in 2017.

          She is survived by her devoted and loving husband of 56 years, Jerry Wayne Messick; daughter Jerita Page (Philip) Haynes of Christiana; son Jason Vinson (Andrea) Messick of Dillon, CO; granddaughters Kiana Skyler and Calista Alani Haynes; and brothers and sisters Billy (Diane) Vinson of Murfreesboro, Gary Vinson of Woodbury, Mary (Tony) Mason of Woodbury, Patricia Smith of Clarksville, and Glenda Richards of Smyrna.  Cousins include Vickie (Jimmy) Martinez of Denver, CO, and Sue Hillis of Fort Walton Beach, Florida.

          Brenda was a 1961 graduate of Woodbury High School where she played basketball and was a longstanding, active member of Mt. Hermon Baptist Church where she sang in the choir.  She was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother and was very devoted to her family and church.

          Funeral services include visitation with the family on Monday, Sept. 25 from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Murfreesboro Funeral Home and a memorial service on Tuesday, Sept. 26 at 10:30 a.m. at Mt. Hermon Baptist Church.  Bro. Jerry Howard and Brian Harrell will officiate.  Burial will follow at Coleman Cemetery on Woodbury Highway.

          Deacons of Mt. Hermon will serve as pallbearers.

          The family wishes to express a special “thank you” to friends, family, and Mt. Hermon for all the prayers, food, and visits made throughout her 17-month battle with cancer.

          In lieu of flowers, donations to the nursery, driveway, or kitchen ministry at Mt. Hermon are appreciated.
