It is with great sadness to learn of Don's passing. The heavens have shed tears with me today as I grieve and remember a friend. Don was a good friend to our family and was there for us in times of sickness and death, as well as sharing joys of life. As our paths crossed through the years, I remember how he spoke with love of his children and his dog. He reminded me of the sayings 'laugh, love, live' and he always seemed to 'make lemonade our of lemons.' Don had a good and caring heart, loved the Lord and gave of his best and touched many lives thru his ministry in the church. He is now at peace with the Lord he loved. Our thoughts and prayers are with all of you as you too reflect and remember one of God's special children.

Don was a colleague in ministry, and a friend; I am sorry to hear about his illness and death. Don had a good sense of humor and was fun to be around, yet he was intense about ministry (in the past year, he even tried to woo my worship leaders away from me to start a church!) I appreciate what I believe was a genuine desire to serve God. Don will be missed and you, his family, will be in my prayers.

Don and I are not related, but he always called me "cousin." I will never forget his wonderful laugh!

Pam, Mike & Mark I knew your Dad when we were both on the staff at Belmont UMC in 1970. His sense of humor, his plain spokeness, and his caring for people made a real impression. I will always remember his showing me around the church in Alexandria, LA. In your grief, I am reminded of the words of a mutual friend from Belmont--Dr. E.P. Anderson who said at each memorial service he conducted, "We do not know what the future holds, we trust in Him who holds the future." Love and Peace. Kent McNish

One of the greatest tasks of my life was being Don Austin's secretary at FUMC, Tullahoma. But when I would type his Family Life or Adult Council activities, I realized how much he loved the Lord and wanted people to embrace that joy. Don and some of the staff took a trip to Cindy Day's house on the mountain one Christmas. For secretaries day one year, we went to Olive Garden. I always received a Christmas card from Don.I cherish those memories. I have shed tears this week. But I know that his work was fulfilling God's plan. Oh, how he must be feeling today as he looks up in reverence to the Lord. He's still learning, seeking abiding guidance from our Savior. I can easily say that Don Austin was one of my best friends on staff. I might not always wanted to hear what he had to say, like, "where you get those pajamas." But, in hindsight,he really become my mentor. No matter how tough life became for Don, he always pulled himself out of the fire. And boy, was there fire sometimes. Thanks for putting the picture of him online. When we pulled it up at the office, everyone was quiet and said, "yes" that's the way he would have wanted it to be. Thanks for sharing your Dad with us in Tullahoma. Please know that I truly loved Don Austin as a brother in Christ. He and my husband and Mark Beecham all had the same birthday. I will remember him always.

to My dear friend and co-worker's family. I worked with Don at First Methodist, M'Boro for his time there and we remained connected through the years seeing each other at events that I catered for various groups. He always had a hug and smile for me and something funny and nice to say. I am sad to know he is gone from this place, but in heaven he'll be a the sunshine for those around him........ God bless you, Don Austin.
