Obituary of Dr Charles Norman Kendall
Dr. Charles Norman Kendall was born in Madison, Tennessee on May 24, 1937. Norman married the love of his life, Claudia Coll on September 5, 1993 in Gatlinburg, Tennessee. Norman passed from this life at his home on Monday, January 7, 2019 with Claudia at his side.
Dr. Kendall was preceded in death by his loving parents, Dr. Cyrus E. Kendall and Esther C. (Jensen) Kendall; his brothers, Dr. Robert Leon Kendall and Dr. Douglas Warren Kendall and his son Glenn Michael (Kendall). He is survived by his Wife Claudia R. Kendall, Son Charles N. Kendall Jr., Daughter-in-law Graciela Avila Kendall, Stepsons Glenn M. Elrod and Paul B. Elrod; Grandchildren Alexander Robert Kendall, Jesus Carlo Kendall, Aranza Marie Kendall, Wesley Loyd Elrod and Aaron Chase Elrod. Uncle Norman is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
His education included Madison Academy in Madison, Tennessee; Southern Missionary College (Southern Adventist University) in Collegedale, Tennessee; Loma Linda University School of Medicine in Loma Linda, California, a Radiology Residency at George Washington University Hospital, Washington DC; and an internship at Porter Memorial Hospital in Denver, Colorado.
Lieutenant Commander Kendall entered service in the US Navy January 3, 1967 at Naval Air Station Pensacola where he began a life-long love affair with flying. LCDR Kendall entered Flight School becoming a pilot and he entered Flight Surgeon School, becoming a Flight Surgeon. While serving in the US Navy, LCDR Kendall earned the National Defense Service Medal and the Vietnam Service Medal. After being honorably discharged from his US Navy duties on June 30, 1969, Dr. Kendall continued to serve in the US Naval Reserve an additional five years.
Dr. Kendall began his private practice in California but he was licensed to practice in Arizona, California, Colorado, Georgia, New Mexico, Tennessee, and Washington DC. His private practice included various locations including Weed Army Hospital, Ft. Irwin, California; South Pittsburg Municipal Hospital, South Pittsburg, Tennessee; Wildwood Sanitarium, Wildwood, Georgia; Smyrna Medical Center, Smyrna, Tennessee, and the Alvin C. York Medical Center in Murfreesboro, Tennessee.
Dr. Kendall was a member of The American Board of Radiology, The American Board of Nuclear Medicine, The VFW, and the Aircraft Owners & Pilot’s Association, AOPA.
Dr. Kendall was a life-long member of the Seventh-day Adventist Church. He was a kind, loving gentle man and never failed to see the good in all people. He was the most loving husband, father, grandfather, and friend for which anyone could ask. As he leaves this life our hearts are broken but knowing he has gone to be with Jesus, Michael, and other family members that have preceded him in death we must now celebrate his life. He is now in God’s loving arms where there is no sorrow where there is no pain. “Until we meet again, we love and miss you dearly Norman!”
Visitation for Dr. Kendall will be at Murfreesboro Funeral Home Friday January 11 from 4:00 PM until 8:00 PM and Saturday January 12 from 2:00 PM until 4:00 PM. Funeral service will be held immediately following the Saturday visitation at 4:00 PM. Internment will take place in Hixson, Tennessee at the Hamilton Memorial Gardens at 3:00 PM (Eastern Time Zone) Sunday January 13 with Pastor Brian Milano of Murfreesboro Seventh Day Adventist Church.
