Obituary
Obituary of Dolores June Robertson
Please share a memory of Dolores to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Dolores June (Sanders) Robertson, June 4, 1934 to May 27, 2020.
Dolores (Dee) Robertson died on Wednesday, May 27, 2020, after a lengthy battle with kidney failure. She was just one week shy of her 86th birthday.
Dee is survived by her husband of 67 years, Bill, their two sons, Mark Robertson (Theresa), David Robertson(Monica), her two brothers, Bill Sanders, Larry (Dorothea) Sanders, and her sister, Rosemary Hubenthal (Bill). She had three grandchildren: Amanda Averitt (Randy), Teal Larson (Justin), and Abigail Robertson, plus her three great-grandchildren: Savanah, Gavin, and EmmaLeah.
How can you adequately summarize 85 years in a few short paragraphs? You can’t. We would like to share some things about this petite woman who was larger than life to so many of us.
I (David) would like to share a few thoughts on behalf of my brother, Mark, regarding our wonderful mother.
MOM LOVED GOD.
For as long as I can remember, we were church people. She was a strong Christian and participated in many Bible study groups over the years. She and my father served at World Outreach Church on the Greeter Team, and loved their pastor. They started every day of their life with coffee, Bible reading, devotions, and prayer.
MOM LOVED DAD.
Mom was married for all but 17 of her 85 years. They were not the perfect couple but perfect for one another. She and my father were best friends. In the early years, Dad traveled for work. But when they were together, they were almost inseparable. They enjoyed traveling, RVing, fishing, cookouts, cards with friends, and maintaining their lovely home in Murfreesboro for the last 40 years. Their marriage was one of those rare examples of two persons completely in love with one another.
MOM LOVED HER FAMILY
Mom was fiercely loyal to her two boys, both of which she spoke on the phone to almost daily for years. She was active, engaged, and intentional about doing her best to be present in the lives of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Holidays nearly always found us together as a family enjoying one another.
MOM LOVED PEOPLE
Mom and Dad were two of the most social creatures I’ve every met. They had a ton of friends, good friends, close friends. They were always doing something with someone. They would fill up almost every day on the calendar with some type of social engagement. They were into social networking long before the Internet came along. Mom would make phone calls every Saturday through lists of people just to touch base. Why Saturday? Cell calls were free on Saturdays back before unlimited plans!
MOM LOVED TO WORK
Mom was an early riser, often getting up at 4 am to get to work. Like the Army, she got more done before 9 am than most people did all day. She kept an immaculate house. As Mary Poppins might say: “Spit Spot” with everything in its place, always.
MOM LOVED DECORATING
You may not know this, but Mom was an unofficial (and unpaid) interior decorator. She had the gift. All of their homes over the years, however modest, were clean, orderly, and beautifully decorated. She decorated inside and out for all holidays. We never used the Dining Room or Living Room. These were her “show rooms,” decorated so beautifully that nobody could go in there to mess it up. It was decorated exactly as she wanted it, like something out of Better Homes and Gardens magazine back in the day.
MOM LOVED LIFE
Mom laughed easily. She was a great listener. She got out of the Lazy Boy recliner and lived life to the full. She and my father went on hundreds of excursions that took them from Florida to Hawaii. We, as boys, got to tag along on many adventures including Disney World, Yellowstone, the Black Hills, and so much more. What a rich life they provided, and Mom loved it!
So, there you have it. A woefully inadequate summary of a life well lived. There are a thousand other stories out there, and I encourage those of you who knew her to tell them. Share them with a family member or friend. In so doing, you will be honoring her memory.
