Since my daughter started school at Scales Elementary he was the bright light every morning and every afternoon! He always had a smile on his face, danced around to make us laugh and had a way of making us all feel so good. Also, not to mention the candy and the gifts he gave our kids. We will always cherish him and will certainly miss his amazing presence. Rest In Peace our forever friend and protector of our children.

Mr. Garret used to bring me biscuits & cokes when I was a teller at the Church St location of my credit union. He was exceedingly kind & I am praying for his family. Heaven is rejoicing today as another child of God has come home.

Ray was such a blessing to us and our sons. He was affectionately known by all of the church kids as “The Candy Man.” He always had candy and lots of laughs. And what a softball player! I’ve seen him catch a ball with the glove on the wrong hand, I believe he was a lefty, and run in a home run in dress shoes. Such a fun, precious man! We will miss his phone calls and his distinct voice. Heaven gained a treasure and I am so happy we will see him again. Prayers for Lorene and the boys. Love, Tommy, Chandy, Taylor, and John-Daniel Powell ♥️

We are so sorry for your loss. We live near Scales and have been walking his direction for several years, since getting our dog. He loved to talk to me about my dog and about his own. You could always count on him for a cheerful greeting and his good mood was contagious even at 7 in the morning! He was great at his job and the kids and parents alike clearly adored him. He will be missed.

We live near Scales and had children there for more than a decade. We have many fond memories of this kind and generous man! He clearly loved the children and his job. He and his wife gave my girls gifts on several occasions. We could always count on him for a smile and a heart greeting while he worked to keep our kids safe. He will be missed.

Ray Has been my best friend for the last 5 or 6 years. We played a lot of golf together, he won most of the time. Always cheerful and outgoing, he made friends with everyone he met. I loved Ray and will miss him dearly.

Brother Ray will be so deeply missed. He brought so much joy to so many people. He kept us all laughing every Sunday. The kids in the church will all miss his smile and candy. I will miss my “Church Grandpa” so so much. He was truly a blessing to everyone who knew him.

He always had a smile for everyone. My daughter Angela called him her church grandpa. She gave them fresh eggs. He gave her a lollipop each Sunday. He will be missed.
