Obituary
Obituary of Hunter Eugene Garrett
Please share a memory of Hunter to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Hunter Eugene Garrett, 26, of Murfreesboro, TN (by way of Hattiesburg, MS and Zachary, LA) bolted into the arms of Jesus on June 7, 2023 after an unexpected illness and rapid decline at St. Thomas Rutherford Hospital.
Hunter was preceded in death by his Pawpaw, Truman Warren Fairley, Sr.
Hunter is survived by his wife, Lesley Brumfield Garrett of Murfreesboro, TN whom he always referred to as the godliest woman he knew; loving parents Mark and Theresa Garrett of Zachary, LA; siblings Jacob Garrett (Jamie) of New Orleans, LA; Cody (Marisa) and Laura of Houston, TX; his Grammy Patricia Jean Fairley of Zachary, LA, grandpa and grandma Eugene and Ellen Garrett of Temple, TX, aunts and uncles Perri (Uncle Don), Warren (Aunt Marg), and Shari (Shane) a host of cousins whom he loves dearly: Matt, Brittany, Kendall, Shaston, David, Abby and Mason; and his niece Della, “that cute baby.”
Hunter never met a stranger and had an uncanny way of making people feel seen. He was ever in pursuit of a new hobby and passionate about coffee, theology, philosophy, and food we’d all avoid but that he would call exotic. He planned to write a book and become a millionaire — a goal he’d never reach not because of writing capability but because of positively unmatched generosity. His kindness was contagious, his intellect underestimated, his love for his wife never untold.
We are grateful to faithful friends across four continents who have prayed for Hunter and our family. This is a testament to Christ’s love which Hunter modeled in every interaction he had — be it his grocery store cashier, his plethora of diverse friends, or at home in his marriage. Without question, Hunter would want each of us to have life to the full and the hope of eternity in heaven that comes through the sacrifice of Christ and relationship with Him.
Receiving of friends will be held from 1-3 pm on Saturday, June 10 with a memorial service to begin at 3:00 pm at Murfreesboro Funeral Home.
On Monday, June 12 friends will be received beginning at 5:30 pm followed by a memorial service at 6:30 pm at Fellowship Church Zachary in Zachary, LA.
A private graveside service will follow in Lucedale, MS.
