Please share a memory of Martha to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Martha Kay (Kirkland) Holt
Kay (70) passed away on January 17, 2024. She lived in Murfreesboro, TN, so she could be closer to her daughter and grandchildren, who currently live in Brentwood, TN. Kay was born and spent most of her life in Sylacauga, AL, with brief stays in Texas as a child and Atlanta, GA as a young adult.
Since childhood, Kay had a love of music and singing. She sang in the church choir as a child, and she sang in a band as a young adult. As a mother, she was incredibly active in her children’s lives as a cub scout mom, girl scout troop leader, peewee cheerleading coach, and the host of many fun sleepovers. She always looked forward to the summer when she was able to spend time with family and friends camping either at the lake or at the beach. She was a deeply caring person who always rooted for the underdog. She selflessly took care of her ailing parents and mother-in-law, donated often to her local food bank, and gave everything she could to those in need. She was a devoted wife, and loving mother and grandmother. She will be greatly missed.
Kay was preceded in death by mother Clyde Mae Kirkland and father AJ Kirkland (Sylacauga AL), sister Martha Moon (Hendersonville TN), brother Larry Kirkland (Childersburg AL), brother Jay Kirkland (Sylacauga AL), as well as husband Larry Michael “Mike” Holt and son Marco Holt (Sylacauga AL).
Kay is survived by her daughter Marla (Holt) Howell (with husband John, Brentwood TN) and grandchildren Alexander, Colton, and Emma.
A celebration of life in Sylacauga AL is to be scheduled.
In lieu of flowers the family asks that you donate in her name to either the Crohn’s and Colitis Foundation, the American Lung Association, or to your local food bank.
