Obituary of Sue Summers Grubbs

Sue Carson Summers Grubbs passed away Thursday, August 8, 2024, at the age of 93. She was born in Statesville, NC, on April 6, 1931, to Fred D and Mary Carson Bagwell Summers. Left to cherish happy memories and carry on her legacy of love are: David H. Grubbs, her devoted husband of 71 years; her three daughters Karen L. (David McKinney) Grubbs, Linda G. (Mark) Horton, and Debra G. McCormick, and their families including Sue’s “Grandmommie’s” seven grandchildren and four great grandchildren, brother-in-law, five nieces, and five nephews. She graduated from Maryville College, where she met her future husband David, earning her Bachelor of Science, and then received her Master’s at MTSU in education, and taught 8th grade social studies, in Rutherford County, until her retirement. Sue and David enjoyed many years of traveling the globe and all 50 states, with each other and friends. Over her lifetime, she enjoyed playing Bridge with her Bridge groups. She attended and was an active member of First Presbyterian Church Murfreesboro, as well as the Murfreesboro Woman’s Club. Visitation with the family will be, 11:00am until 12:00pm, Tuesday, August 13, 2024, at First Presbyterian Church Murfreesboro, 210 North Spring Street with a Celebration of Life at 12:00 noon. Sue loved flowers, but requested that in lieu of flowers, donations are welcome to First Presbyterian Church, or a charity of your choice.
