Obituary of Jim Wiseman

Jim Wiseman, age 71, passed away on December 30, 2012 at the Alive Hospice Residence in Nashville, from complications due to cancer. He is survived by his wife, Sally Schneider: his son, Jonathan Erwin (Jamie), Vandling, Pennsylvania: his sister, Peggy Francis, Golden, Colorado; special cousins, Sherry Mays and Hal Wiseman; several nieces and nephews and many loving friends. Mr. Wiseman has always been a teacher, beginning with teaching in the Watts area of South Los Angeles. He was a former Associate MTSU Professor (tenured), a former U.S. Marine, and a retired attorney. While at MTSU, he helped to found the local Sigma Phi Epsilon fraternity chapter, and was their chapter counselor for many years, as well as having served often on their Alumni Board. He taught at many State universities around the country, while accumulating a master's degree, a specialist in education degree, and an Ed.D, before concluding with his law degree. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church. He practiced law in Murfreesboro over 30 years, first as a solo practitioner, then for thirteen years in partnership with his wife. He retired once, but then found his favorite legal work of all in juvenile court, including time spent as Assistant and Regional General Counsel for the Department of Children's Services. His life-time hobby was riding motorcycles, which he continued until the week before he was hospitalized. He was a Mason, a Shriner, a Life Member of Friends of Linebaugh Library, and a current Board member of the Rutherford County Family YMCA. He loved mentoring young persons, whether through the fraternity or the practice of law. He had a real talent for making life-long friends. He was especially appreciative of the rich friendships made in recent years in the Department of Children's Services and the Rutherford County Juvenile Court, as well as those made and kept from decades ago. A memorial service will be held at 3:00pm following family visitation at 1:30pm on Sunday, January 6, 2013 at First United Methodist Church in Murfreesboro. Memorial donations to Alive Hospice or the First United Methodist Church building fund would be appreciated by the family.
