Obituary of MSgt James Valrie

MSgt James Edward Valrie, 47, of Murfreesboro passed away at his home June 12, 2009 from his battle with cancer. He was born in Fairhope, Alabama to the late Claude Valrie, Sr and Carrie Valrie who survives. He was a 1987 graduate of Southern Illinois University at Carbondale where he obtained his Bachelor's Degree in Aviation Management. He enlisted in the United States Marine Corps in March 1983 and retired January 31, 2004 as a Master Sergeant. He served in Operation Enduring Freedom and Operation Iraqi Freedom. After he retired from the Marine Corps, he was employed as an Air Traffic Controller and Operations Specialist for Serco Management Services, Inc. He loved playing basketball, bowling, and watching movies. Mr. Valrie was preceded in death by his father. He is survived by his loving wife, Tisha Carter Valrie and children, Jamie Mushatt Valrie, Robert Vargas, Shantel Vargas, Jarryd Mushatt Valrie. He also leaves behind his mother, Carrie Williams Valrie and siblings, Gloria Fagan, Charles Valrie, Floria Standifer, Delciena Valrie, Claude "Butch" Valrie Jr; Van Valrie and Felicia Adams and a host of nieces and nephews. The funeral service will be Friday, June 19, 2009 at 11:00 am at Murfreesboro Funeral Home with Bro. Gene Lovelace and Maj. Kevin Korpinen, USMC officiating. Graveside service to follow at Middle Tennessee Veterans Cemetery at 2:00 pm with full military honors. The family will receive friends Thursday beginning at 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm at Murfreesboro Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers family ask for memorial donations be made to Gilda's Club Nashville, 1707 Division Street, Nashville, TN 37203. Please memo donations: "In Memory of James Valrie".
