Obituary of Arsula Cunningham

Cunningham, Arsula "Sue" age 82 of Murfreesboro passed away Thursday, July 30, 2009. She was born May 1, 1927 in Nashville to Celeste and Wiley Hammond, whom she cherished. She lived in Nashville for 45 years, during which time she met the love of her life, William W. Cunningham, and married him in 1944. They shared 64 wonderful years together and were blessed with seven children: Carol Sue Parzik, William W. Cunningham, Jr., Judith Anne Winters, Linda Gale Slaughter, Michael Anthony Cunningham, David Alan Cunningham, and Rebecca Lynn Dickinson. In the early 1970's they moved to Murfreesboro where they have resided since. During her lifetime Arsula worked as a seamstress at O'Brian Brothers and at Horace Small's Manufacturing in Nashville. She was an avid reader and had a passion for quilting which she passed on to her daughters. A devoted wife and mother, she exuded a quiet strength of character and was the epitome of what it means to be a lady. Deeply loved and respected, many lives have been touched by her gentle ways. She will be greatly missed. In addition to her parents, Arsula was preceded in death by her sisters Lucy Bellar, Kathern Palframan and her brother James Hammond. She is survived by her husband William "Bill" Cunningham; sisters Loretta Hammond and Letty Boucher; brothers Wiley "Buddy" Hammond, William "Bill" Hammond and Jerry Hammond; 7 children, 16 grandchildren, 25 great grandchildren and 3 great great grandchildren; Bill's relatives; and many nieces and nephews and their children. Visitation with the family will be Monday, August 3, 2009 from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Murfreesboro Funeral Home. Funeral Service will be Tuesday, August 4, 2009 at 11:00 a.m. at the Murfreesboro Funeral Home with Rev. Tommy Perkins officiating. Interment to follow at Woodlawn Memorial Park.
