Obituary of Margaret Smith

Margaret Morton Smith, age 84, of Murfreesboro, went to be with her Lord June 30, 2011 after an extended illness with Parkinson Disease at her daughter's home surrounded by her loving family. She resided at NHC for two and a half years before moving in with her daughter where she remained until her passing. Mrs. Smith was born in Murfreesboro, TN to the late J.A. "Jake" Morton and Candace Maria Smotherman Morton. She was the oldest member of Old Leb Methodist Church. Mrs. Smith was preceded in death by her parents, J.A. "Jake" and Irene Morton; mother, Candace Maria Smotherman Morton; husband, Walter Edwin Smith. She is survived by her daughter, Marcia (Barry) Lamb of Rockvale; brother, James Jacob Morton of Rockvale; sister, Virginia Spence of Midland Community; grandchildren, Darren Smith (Diana) Lamb of Murfreesboro, Lance Barry (Renee) Lamb of Rockvale; great grandchildren, Ellizabeth Lamb, Mia Lamb and twins, Tristan and Colton Lamb.
The family will receive friends on Friday, July 1, 2011 from 4:00 pm-8:00 pm at Murfreesboro Funeral Home.
Funeral service will be Saturday, July 2, 2011 at 1:00pm at Murfreesboro Funeral Home with Bro. Shane Merritt and Chaplain Bob Bush officiating. Burial will follow at Roselawn Memorial Gardens. Pallbearers will be Glen Chrisman, Randy Garrett, David Hudgens, Bill Jones, Roy Fields, Robert Jolly, Clay Minatra, Paul Morton, and Steve Spence. Honorary pallbearers will be Katherine Smith, Julia Minatra, Jean Garrett, Virginia Smotherman, Betty Taylor, Angie Carter, Fay Smith, and Carol Smith.
The Smith family would like to express a special thank you to NHC caregivers, Danielle Mingle, Michelle Lovell, Thomas Stevenson, Lynn Foster, Renee Adams, Kimberly Carmical, Bethany Carver, Darla Robinson, Aneida Whitfield, Alecia Williams, NHC kitchen staff Jackie King, and Michelle Morris, Caris caregivers, Maria Gaw, Tammy Odennel, Tinesha Joiner, Shanna Bogle, New Generations caregivers Jennifer Dye and Net Clinton, and other caregivers, Ann Fraizer Murray, Judy Wilson, and Donna Barnett.
