Dear Mrs. Zapotocky, It saddened me to learn of Mr. Zapotocky’s passing. As a young boy growing up down the street from Finch’s Market I was the one my mother sent to the store with a note for groceries, sometimes with money and sometimes to “put it on the bill”. I remember you at the front counter cashing people out and Pete in the back (with I think his name was Otto) cutting meat. Bill and I got to be friends and were in Cub Scouts and sometimes trouble together, I think I even slept over at your house on Chenango Street a couple times. It was a great time and neighborhood to grow up in and the older I get the more I think about those days and wonder what happened to all those friends and neighbors I knew. My sister Joyce is still alive and in fairly good health. Both my mother Virginia and father Frank are gone. I stayed in the area (Port Crane) got married and we have three daughters who each gave us one grandchild, two girls and a boy. Seeing Mr. Zapotocky’s obituary brought back a lot of memories. Please accept my condolences to you and your family. Sincerely, Wayne Howard

Sally: Every once in a while, a memory bursts to the surface. The news of Pete's passing has brought back many memories. I made many trips to Finches Market. Pete and Sally helped my family during hard times. They will be forever in my thoughts. I will forever have the image in my mind of Sally behind the counter and Pete cutting meat in the back. I too left Binghamton many years ago. While no one can truely understand your loss, please know that this one voice from your past is thinking of you.

Dearest Sally and son - I am sorry to read of the passing of Pete. I remember so many fond memories at Finch's store; also right across the street from me at VanScoy's on State Street. Those memories can never be replaced, but will be forever in my heart. So hard to explain to grandchildren how much fun we had at our local neighborhood stores. Sincerely, Joan (Hess) La Due and family
